Metabolic Eating is concept that has been defined by a variety of companies and professionals as a program that can increase weight loss. The program entails increasing the frequency of eating, but not the total volume of food consumed. For instance, instead of eating three large meals in one day (breakfast, lunch, supper), a person can eat five smaller meals. A sample plan could include a light breakfast, midmorning snack, lunch, mid-afternoon snack and finish off with supper.
The concept of increased meal frequency has been comprehensively studied in a variety of populations and some of the benefits include a decrease in cholesterol, greater control of appetite and a decrease in Body Mass Index (BMI). These rewards can be especially relevant for pregnant women and for seniors. Further benefits for pregnant women include less total weight gain, a higher energy level and a lower risk of preterm delivery.
